Why is my PS5 Overheating? Common Causes and Solutions

We have many users of PS5 overheating! "Your PS5 is too hot. Turn off your PS5, and wait until the temperature goes down" If you have seen this message pop up on your screen, then you are experiencing an issue with your Sony PS5 Overheating.

What to do if a message pops up?

  1. Power it off and let it rest for about 10 minutes and try power on again.

  2. If the issue still persists, do check and make sure you have at least 10cm (4 inches) away from the wall or enclosed area.

  3. Open up your PS5 plate and try powering on again. If there is dust, use a vacuum to clean it.

  4. Check if the fan is still spinning

  5. if all fail and/or the fan stops spinning, you can send in your console over. It could be the liquid metal issue or both the liquid metal and fan issue. We will diagnose and confirm the damage.

What not to do?

  1. Recommend not to open up yourself. We have some cases where customers damage other parts and spill the liquid metal.

  2. Don't try to force the PS5 to run. The reason it powers off when detected overheating is to protect itself. Don't try to bypass it and force it to run.

What to do after the PS5 is serviced by us/how to prevent it?

PS5 has now entered its 4-year lifespan and so far we have encountered Gen 1 (CFI-10XX) and some Gen 2 (CFI-11XX) coming in overheating and liquid metal needed to be replaced. Here are the following recommendations:

  1. Make sure you have at least 10cm (4 inches) of space away from the wall or enclosed area.

  2. Clean and remove any dust from time to time. If you are living in a dusty environment, recommend doing a cleaning every 1-2 months.

  3. send in your Sony PS5 for services every 2-3 years. Liquid metal will dry up in time. Duration will depend on your environment, the game you play, how long and how long you played.
